  1. README.1ST:  for THE EXPLORERS(c) v1.4
  2.  
  3.     This program is for people interested in the history of the United
  4. States of America.  It provides short histories of the major Explorers
  5. of America (1600 - 1860) and presents tests and quizzes in various ways
  6. so that the user may review the material in a non-threatening atmosphere.
  7.  
  8. INSTALLATION
  9.  
  10.      These programs cannot fit on one 360K disk.  They are compressed with
  11. LHARC by Yoshi.  EXPL_A.EXE contains QUIZEXPL.EXE, EXPL.DOC and all the tests.
  12.  
  13.      EXPL_B.EXE contains the histories in seven parts or chapters, the
  14. READEXPL.BAT file, REPLY.COM and LISTEXPL as a menu for listing, selecting
  15. and reading the histories.
  16.  
  17.      The E_INSTAL.BAT program will unpack and install the programs on two
  18. formatted disks, on one 720k+ disk, or create \EXPL on your hard disk.  Be
  19. sure to have formatted disks available as the total space required in 650k.
  20. If you expect to use two 360K disks label one Expl-A and the other Expl-B.
  21. Place the distribution disk in drive A:; the blank disk in drive B: and type
  22.  
  23.      E_INSTAL A: B:

  25. and follow the directions as given for switching disk.
  26.  
  27.      It is wise to make back-up of your disks.  If you wish to have a
  28. bootable disk, format the EXPL-A disk with the /S option and copy all of
  29. the EXPL-A files to the bootable disk but not the EXPL.DOC file.  This
  30. should give you sufficient room for the necessary files.  You do not need
  31. the DOC file to run the program.

  33.      If you have disks of greater density or capacity you may place all
  34. the files on one disk or one directory.  Place the distribution disk in
  35. Drive A:  When ready type ...
  36.  
  37.      E_INSTAL A: B:     (or A: C: or A: D: etc.)
  38.  
  39.      Read the directions (in the DOC) file for the operation of the program.
  40.  
  41.      The ANSI.SYS (or NANSI.SYS) should be loaded for the .BAT file to work
  42. properly.  Place DEVICE=ANSI.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file.
